This is my favorite temple, it is always open, and there are also many cards there that you can take for free!! Also, where the seats are, there are books (as I understand it, something like prayers or mantras). But it was empty and there were no people. I also noticed that they offer free cheats, but it was empty :(

I stumbled on this temple while driving around searching for apartments. The people working there were so friendly. They took time out of their day to tell me more about the specific type of Buddhism practiced and how it differed from my own lineage. I plan to start attending Sunday services! For anyone interested in a welcoming and warm Buddhist community, you can’t go wrong with the San Jose Buddhist Church.

I really enjoy obon Festival at Japantown in San Jose! Food is good and price is pretty decent! Lovely time there! Almost everything is cash but they have ATM at a very affordable and reasonable charge!

We visit the temple during the Obon festival! Unfortunately, we were late and it was closed. It’s absolutely stunning inside. Worth the trek to Japantown during the Obon festival.

This was a really nice place to visit. They were closed the day we visited, but someone from the front office was nice enough to open for us. Really beautiful religious decorations inside. Gives you a real sense of peace being inside.

While attending an Obon festival, I saw a sign that the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin was inviting people to come inside for an introduction to Buddhism. The priest welcomed everyone, discussed the role of the church in the community, and even explained some of the symbols displayed throughout the church. Very interesting.
